Refugee Employment Survey

We are reaching out to hiring managers, human resource managers and social inclusion professionals in Australian business in connection with an exciting research initiative concerning refugee employment in Australia. We hope you will take 10 to 15 minutes to complete the following survey developed by the Centre for Policy Development (CPD) in relation to your company's experiences with respect to employing refugees whether or not your company has actively sought to employ refugees in Australia.

Australia has resettled thousands of refugees from locations around the world each year since the 1970s under its humanitarian migration program. Despite Australia having well-developed settlement services by global standards, many refugees struggle to find work or business opportunities, particularly in their first few years in Australia. CPD is working with the University of Sydney Business School to better understand one element of the challenge - the attitudes and needs of Australian employers in relation to refugee employment and what more might be done by government and non-government groups to help boost refugee employment in Australia.

By engaging in this survey, you can help to influence future policies, incentives and services available to Australian employers with respect to the employment of refugees.
In addition to this survey, the University of Sydney's research team will be reaching out to a smaller number of employers to undertake more in-depth case studies. The survey and case studies will inform a report published later this year containing policy options and other recommendations.

Multiple responses from the same organisation are welcome. Individual survey responses will be held in confidence by the researchers, and not publicly attributed to any particular individual or employer. A small group of volunteers from the Boston Consulting Group will be helping in the collection and analysis of survey responses.
We hope you will take the time to complete this survey and we would be delighted if you shared it with your co-workers and contacts in other organisations who are in similar roles to yours. If you have any questions about this survey or how we intend to use it, please do not hesitate to contact Lisa Button (

We would appreciate your responses by Friday 15 March 2019.
